The society takes care of old aeroplanes, renovates them to airworthy status and operates them.

The aeroplanes.

The first machine was a KZ III, which was built in Denmark in 1946. It is a highwing two-seated monoplane noted for its extremely short take-off and landing distances. The wish to include local aviation history was fulfilled when the society was able to acquire a Götaverken GV 38. The plane, a license-built Rearwin 9000 Sportster of American design, was built in small numbers at the Götaverken shipyard before World War II. The current machine is being flown in a modified configuration with a Continental engine. A second aircraft is under restoration and it will use the original engine, a 5-cylinder 90 hp Le Blond radial. In 1998 the society also purchased a Piper J3 Cub, which is mainly used as a taildragger trainer.

Activities.

Our planes are based and operated from the small Alingsås airfield. At Göteborg City Airport and Aeroseum, our repair and restoration facilities are located. Every year the society arranges excursions to fly-ins etc, also with participation of our family members. We also arrange our own vintage fly-in when members get the chance to see some interesting old aeroplanes in the air and on the ground.

Inquiries.

If you would like to take part in the restoration work, be a supporting member, take part in meetings, or have any other questions about GVFS, please contact:

Gert Böll +46 708-905625 gertboll1(at)gmail.com

Göteborgs Veteranflygsällskap,

c/o Tommy Bohlin

Norra Liden 6

411 18 GÖTEBORG

The Vintage Aviation Society of Göteborg (Göteborgs Veteranflygsällskap) was formed in 1980 by a group of people interested in living aviation history.
